A gold standard safe house attached to a Police Station has been partially funded by MAD – the house contains separate boys & girls dormitories & wash rooms plus a counselling room and an eating/recreation area.
This will be a safe haven for any children who are picked up off the street by the Police instead of holding them in adult custody cells!
The plan is to build more of these units around Kampala although in more modest form. Uganda has no social service department to cater for these children so charity support is their only hope.
